Strategies for Dealing with Repetitive Behaviors

Repetitive behaviors are common in children with autism. Often, repetitive behaviors involve stimming, also known as self-stimulation. It may be unclear to parents why their child engages in these behaviors.

If your child with autism engages in repetitive behaviors, try to understand the cause. For instance, a change in physical environment or a loud social situation may trigger repetitive behaviors. By isolating and addressing the cause, you may be able to reduce the behaviors. Your autism treatment center may also be able to help by providing you with some behavior modification strategies.

At The Behavior Exchange, we rely on applied behavior analysis in Plano to give families living with autism the support they need. You can find out more about our autism therapy programs and how they can help your child succeed by calling us today at (888) 716-8084.
